This year has left people desperate for new music, and of course, there are always thousands of fresh-faced artists to fill that void. Here are the top rising musicians to keep an eye, and an ear, out for in the coming years.
1- Baby Rose
Playing into soul with a powerful voice, paired with smooth backing locals, her songs speak to something deep in everyone. Listening, you can almost feel her speaking directly to you.
2- Jean Dawson
A sound that gives off an experimental vibe fills each of Dawson’s tracks. His music lets your mind wander while his lyrics strive to bring you back down to earth. Each of his songs shows his influence from growing up in Tijuana, while still hitting close to home wherever you are.
3- UMI
With earnest tracks about heartbreak and growth, UMI speaks to the youth in everyone. At only 20 years old, UMI has made a space for herself with her play on language and tune. Easily at home on the radio or any Spotify station out there, she deserves all of the growth she’s finding.
4- Gracie Abrams
Sweet, smooth, Gracie’s music brings through the feeling of getting ready before a first date- or getting over a first heartbreak. The youthful notes in her voice come through like honey in bitter tea when singing her sorrowful lyrics.
5- Deb Never
Youthful and fun, Deb Never’s sound feels like a mix of Childish Gambino and Billie Eilish with a flirty edge you can’t deny. With her first album out in 2019, she’s been connecting with Gen Z-ers. Her music is a fantastic mix of trance-like tunes with cutting lyrics that will have you wanting more.
6- Trevor Powers
Powers is proving Idaho musicians get too easily overlooked. His experimental sound, with smooth and fun lyrics, can catch you off guard if you don’t know what to expect. His music is easily loopable; you won’t want to skip or pause a single song.
7- ICECOLDBISHOP
If there were one word to sum Bishop up, it would be ‘quotable.’ The line of thought that runs through his bars is thick with imagery and creativity. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a song without substance coming from him, full of references and twists on popular culture sewn together with great beats and rhyme.
8- BENEE
A young and fun sound with self-deprecating lyrics leaves the listener feeling like we know her personally. BENEE offers something new in every song, calling through the feeling of Lily Allen and Hayle Kiyoko while still bringing something unique to the table.
9- Brevin Kim
Another in the family of anti-pop, Brevin Kim, has a sound that brings through thoughts of summer and driving with windows down. Although the tunes are smooth, and easy listening, the lyrics can pack a punch here or there that will surprise you.
10- Remi Wolf
Her sweet and poppy voice will catch you off guard with her tough persona. Wolf tries to give off the impression of someone who doesn’t have to try to create her art, but her music tells an entirely different story.
